.The Briegal Association was awarded the prize of the solidarity contest organized by the Ferrol City Council, worth 4,000 euros, thanks to its project “Reducing wool vulnerability to forest fires in Peru”. The main objective of this initiative is to reduce the impact of forest fires in the most disadvantaged communities of Peru, promoting prevention, environmental education and training in sustainable practices.
The project, which will be developed in collaboration with local communities and Peruvian organizations, seeks to strengthen the populations’ capacity to deal with these natural disasters, which every year claim lives and destroy thousands of hectares of forest. Planned actions include the creation of community brigades, the installation of early warning systems and the promotion of awareness campaigns on responsible fire management.
The Briegal Association expressed its excitement and gratitude for the recognition received: “This award not only allows us to continue our commitment to the most vulnerable communities, but is also a sign of Ferrol’s support for international solidarity. We are convinced that, together, we can face these challenges and contribute to a safer and more sustainable future”.
The Ferrol City Council’s solidarity contest aims to support initiatives that promote social welfare, international cooperation, and the promotion of social development.
